Four Avenues of Service
Rotarians may choose how they want to share their talents by providing their own “Service Above Self” through one or more of these Rotary Avenues of Service:
1. Vocational Service
Activities that acknowledge and extend knowledge of all vocations. Vocational service opportunities include: Club Directory, Career Planning, Magazine, Academic Scholarships, and Vocational Scholarships.
2. International Service
Through our Guatemala Water Purification Project, we have brought incredible change to a village of Mayan Indians. Clean water - something each of us takes for granted - is now allowing these families to build new homes, gain a revenue source, farm their land, and send their children to school - including the girls, who no longer have to haul water all day from the nearby lake.
3. Club Service
Club Service consists of activities that plan and encourage ways for members to socialize within Rotary. Opportunities include: Attendance, Bulletin, Classification, Club Drawing, Detective, Historian, Invocations, Membership Background, Membership Development, Red Badge Adviser, Music, Photographer, Public Relations, Rotary Information, We Care, Web Master, Song Master, Fellowship/Greeter, and Rotary Social Coordinator.
4. Community Service
The Board of Directors established the Santa Cruz Rotary Community Fund. This was formed with an initial investment of $50,000 from the general fund of the Rotary operating budget. Proceeds from all fundraisers are deposited with the Community Fund, which is then disbursed to local non-profit organizations that apply to us for help.
Our local community projects have included the River Walk Project, the Veterans' Memorial Courtyard, the Beach Clean-Up Project, and others. Additional community service opportunities include: Benevolence and Grants, Community Project, Senior Citizens, RotaCare (a free health clinic), and Salvation Army Bell Ringers. Our Club also recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities such as RYLA, Rotaract Club (college students), and Interact Club (high school students) service projects. We also strengthen international relations through Rotary Youth Exchange.
